SENDaWelcome’s Community Action Group Completes Three Triathlons and Raises Almost £9,000!
In October 2026, members of SENDaWelcome’s Community Action Group took on
an incredible challenge. Together, they completed the equivalent of three triathlons,
raising almost £9,000 for causes that matter to them.
The challenge involved swimming, cycling and walking. It took determination,
teamwork and plenty of hard work, but the group rose to the challenge and achieved
something amazing!
A challenge planned by people with learning disabilities
What made this challenge particularly special was that it was planned by people with
learning disabilities themselves.
SENDaWelcome’s Community Action Group is led by people with learning
disabilities and autistic people who want to make a difference in their communities.
Members decide which issues matter to them and take action to create positive
change.
The triathlon was an opportunity for the group to raise money for causes they care
about, while showing what people with learning disabilities can achieve when they
have the opportunity to lead, make decisions and turn their ideas into action.
Almost £9,000 was raised for two important causes
Thanks to the incredible efforts of everyone involved, and the generosity of those who donated and supported the challenge, a total of £8,906 was raised!
The money will support two important causes:
-
SENDaWelcome’s Sensory Garden at The Ardagh: Helping us develop an inclusive outdoor space where people can explore their senses, enjoy nature and spend time together.
-
SENDaWelcome’s Community Action Group: Supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people to campaign for better disability inclusion, challenge barriers and make sure their voices are heard.
Making a difference together
We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part. The challenge showed the power of teamwork, determination and community spirit.
A huge thank you to everyone who swam, cycled, walked, donated, shared our fundraising campaign or cheered the group on.
Most importantly, this achievement shows what can happen when people with learning disabilities take the lead, make decisions and create change around the things that matter to them. Simon said “I enjoyed it, actually” and Aisha said “I haven’t been on a bike for years and years!”
We did it together, and we can't wait to see what the Community Action Group achieves next!
