History of the Sensory Garden:

SENDaWelcome launched the Sensory Garden Project in Summer 2025 with a vision to create an inclusive sensory space that everyone could enjoy.

The project was such a huge success that we knew it couldn't end there. Since then, we have worked closely with The Ardagh to develop and grow the project, building partnerships with several learning disability-led organisations.

Together, we have created a range of sensory activities along a sensory trail throughout The Ardagh site, providing opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities to explore, engage, and enjoy the space at any time.

The project continues to make a positive impact within the local community, supporting a local special school to make regular use of the garden and sensory spaces during term time, helping students connect with nature, develop skills, and enjoy outdoor learning experiences.

We continue to use the space to run activities including arts and crafts, sensory play, gardening, games, and social opportunities for people with learning disabilities, their families, and the wider community.

The Sensory Garden Project continues to grow as a welcoming, inclusive space where people can connect, learn, create, and thrive together. Through collaboration, creativity, and community involvement, we are helping to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of accessible outdoor spaces.
