It takes a village to raise a child: Resisting ableism when we raise our children with disabilities

In this article, Katarina Luce from SENDaWelcome, and clinical and community psychologist, Sarah Brown, talk about the challenges families face in building relationships between their disabled children and the people who will be part of their lives – the people in their ‘village’. They share their experience that, with specialist schools often outside of the local community, children with disabilities can miss out on chances to build relationships in their area – and how this means the community misses out on the opportunity to get to know them too.
